Kaman Precision Products has launched a new Air Gap Tool for measuring rotor-to-stator air gaps in large hydroelectric generators.

Developed by the company’s Measuring Division, the handheld device is designed for static alignment during generator installation and reassembly following maintenance. It enables users to measure air gaps in the field and wirelessly store readings on Android and iPhone devices using a dedicated mobile app.

The Air Gap Tool uses Kaman’s eddy current sensing technology to measure the distance between the stator core and rotor poles. Readings are transmitted wirelessly and can be stored without the need for cables or manual recording.

The accompanying app provides a graphical interface for viewing measurements in real time and allows users to set measurement limits for visual indication during inspections. The tool supports both horizontal and vertical measurements and displays maximum, minimum and average values.

The Air Gap Tool is available in a range of depths to suit different applications. It is powered by a rechargeable USB battery, providing more than four hours of cordless operation.
