CVG Edelca has awarded a EUR 100M (US$12.9M) contract to modernise the Simon Bolivar hydro power station in Venezuela to a consortium comprising VA Tech Escher Wyss - a subsidiary of Andritz VA Tech Hydro - and Voith Siemens, Sao Paulo. The project will involve rehabilitation of five 770MW capacity Francis turbines.

Waterhammer solutions

Small hydro plant designers often choose long penstocks instead of the traditional 'open channel' option, as they can be cheaper, quickly installed, and easier to maintain.
